California 2010

So It's really weird to me how much I LOVED Los Angeles.  I even loved it more than NYC!  Prior to leaving for the trip I thought San Diego would be for fun for me since I had already been to L.A years ago... but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, San Diego was lots of fun because we had friends there, but there was just something in the air in L.A. for me.

The first part of the trip didn't turn out so great.  We got to the airport on time just to get to our gate and have a flight attendant tell us that our gate had been moved.  It seemed like we walked the whole friggin airport to get to our other gate. When we finally got to board, we ended up sitting on the plane for another hour because something was wrong with the loading of our baggage. After making it to L.A. we need to pick up our car and drive to San Diego. Come to find out the company that we booked with was non existent. They never picked us up at the airport! We were without a car and already running late. We ended up jumping on an Avis bus because they said that they had cars, low and behold they did, but the line was out the door! Did I mention that when we finally got on the road we hit traffic?!...California traffic that is.   A full Saturday... wasted.

The weather wasn't great either. We all brought nothing but summer clothes. It was in the 50's with no sun and windy. Wahhhaaaaaa!  Anyways, I was excited to eat at Nobu. The dinner was just okay but the company was great!  We ended off the night and partied at the Hard Rock after dinner.

We left San Diego the next morning and headed back to L.A. and stopped in La Jolla.  We went to a part of the beach where we got to see seals! They looked like big turds laying on the beach.  They don't really like you to get close to them. We made that mistake and one barked at us like a dog... it freaked me out!  The seals were the highlight of the San Diego trip.

On to L.A.... Oh L.A. why are you so expensive?!  The last day of our trip I called a condo to see how much they were renting for.  Ok, this place was nice, it was a spanish style condo, looked brand new, right off of the Sunset strip..... 900 sq ft. 1 bed 1 bath = $3500.00 a month!! Holy Freakin Cow!  Um.. my 2 bedroom is wwaayyy cheaper!  Thanks for crushing my dreams L.A.... I can't afford to live in you.

The food in L.A was amazing! So amazing I'm drooling on myself just thinking about it. We ate the best pizza ever at Pizza Mozza. They are very strict about the way your order... you had to order you appetizer and dinner at the same time, and you can't sit at the bar without a reservation.  I had the best salmon salad at The Hungry Cat on Hollywood and Vine. The salmon was somewhat rare, kind of like sushi grade, it melted in your mouth.

The last day we had breakfast at the Griddle Cafe on Sunset. www.thegriddlecafe.com
If you just look at this website you get hungry. This is the kind of breakfast that would make you slap your mama for a bite!  The main breakfast room was packed! I though to myself 'does anyone work around here?' we were there at around 11am.  They ended up sitting us in one of the back rooms and when you enter the door area there are nothing but those hanging beads. I felt like we were going to get our fortune read rather than eat breakfast.  The room was very dim as if you got so trashed the night before and you didn't want to see the light of day as you try to sober up by eating some of the most unhealthy, melt in your mouth breakfast ever! (Did I mention we wanted to sit outside in the sun and people watch? We got quite the opposite.) I got Mom's french toast, and Sebastian got the Cobb Omelet and we shared. I give this place a million stars. My stomach hurt so bad after eating we had to walk the block a couple times and didn't eat the rest of the day. What a great way to end the trip!
